The future needs space

How education, art and culture shape resilient places
"The future needs spaces" - a sentence that sounds simple at first, but quietly resonates. What kind of spaces can support the future? Spaces that not only protect, but also open up. That don't just hold on, but shape change. When education, art and culture come together, more than a place is created - a space of possibility is created. On October 11, this idea will be the focus of a panel discussion at the Glaspavillon, the Intercultural Center: How can a community become resilient - and what does it take? Answers lie between science and urban development, between universities and cultural venues, where civil society gets involved.
Dr. Johanna Schwarz from Heidelberg University, who has been working for many years in the field of knowledge transfer at the interface of science, society, culture and industry, creating spaces for thought and dialog, will be one of the speakers. She will report on the city of Heidelberg's climate change garden - a model project for climate-resilient urban development.
Also taking part in the panel discussion is Dr. Matthias Rauch, who is helping to shape the creative city in Mannheim. As spokesperson for the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft, he combines regional perspectives with supra-regional developments.
Moderated by Laura Knobloch, an expert on transformation and sustainability, the one-and-a-half-hour event will address questions that have an impact far beyond the podium: Which places help to survive crises? How do education and art together enable change? And what role does culture play when it comes to building bridges - between people, disciplines and perspectives? It is an invitation to everyone who is interested in the future - not abstractly, but concretely: in cities, in communities, in ideas. The future needs spaces. And these spaces need us.
