Erwin Ditzner's Carte Blanche
Thursday, October 26, 2023, Old Fire Station
One certainly unintended but productive side effect of the recent multimedia and polyphonic "Bauhaus" anniversary celebrations was that percussionist Erwin Ditzner was reminded once again how important the collective and the interdisciplinary were and still are in his career and biography. So: away with the obstructive genre pigeonholes! And always open to inspired encounters with other musicians! Both of these things best describe the traditional "carte blanche" that Ditzner has curated for many years as part of Enjoy Jazz .
In the anniversary year of the festival, he explores free improvisation with the inclusion of electronics - which on the one hand makes you think of Krautrock, but on the other hand does not exclude an improvisation on a Bach cantata. On top: The visuals by Nico Weber and Marc Nordbruch (NOW Collective Berlin) do not "illustrate" the events, but are an equal part of the improvisation. Nothing is guaranteed, but everything is allowed.
