Gee Hye Lee Trio feat. Jakob Bänsch and Sandi Kuhn
Saturday, October 25, 2025, Franz Danzi Saal
In cooperation with Jazztage Schwetzingen
Anyone who experienced pianist Gee Hye Lee at the Korean Jazz Night two years ago will know why the jury of the National Jazz Prize once raved about her technical brilliance and a sound of the highest musical expression. With her perfectly attuned trio - Joel Locher on bass and Mareike Wiening on drums - Gee Hye Lee has further developed her formal language, but has deepened it even more: She masters classical jazz idioms almost light-footedly, transforming them floatingly into something timeless. This time she is bringing an extraordinary wind section to the festival: Jakob Bänsch, just 22, was awarded the German Jazz Prize for his debut "Opening"; his playing prompted a New York critic to draw comparisons with the young Wynton Marsalis. Saxophonist Sandi Kuhn sounds no less exciting - the Süddeutsche Zeitung was seduced by his "wonderfully soft sound", "intelligent phrasing" and "magisterial composure". What Gee Hye Lee once said about himself applies to all five of them: "Music is my life."
